The day the “before” version of Milldale went on the market, Los Angeles experienced one of the heaviest rains on record. Cercone and Manheim put on their waders, snapped up the property, then set to work on the tired, 1960’s ranch house, raising and redirecting its roof lines, adding 1500 square feet of living space and reinventing the home in East Coast Traditional style.
The day the “after” version of Milldale went on the market, Los Angeles experienced an epic El Nino that dumped so much rain on the city, houses started sliding off the hillsides. The owners of one of those stray homes became the new owners of Milldale, proving the axiom, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning how to dance in the rain”.

BEFORE AND AFTER
Milldale’s down-to-stud renovation was completed in only 9 months, thanks to the contractor’s industrious crew. Since the team was predominantly Hispanic, Jaman hosted a fiesta to say “gracias” to the men and their families, with home-made tamales and entertainment from a local Mariachi band.
