KENTER CANYON

Originally a carriage house, this 1920’s home once hosted luminaries such as Greta Garbo, Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable and Louis B. Mayer. With that audience in mind, Jaman updated all systems and finishes and added a 1700 square foot guest house/home office—while carefully maintaining the home’s original charm.

Continuing its show business provenance, the completed home sold in a three-way competition between a producer, an agent and a studio president, and has subsequently been home to an actor and a talent agency partner.

FEATURES: Four bedrooms/5 baths; antique carriage light fixtures throughout; a gated, fountained courtyard and motor court landscaped with tropical vegetation including ginger, banana and citrus; back patio with fountain; owner’s suite with wood-burning fireplace, steam shower and spa tub; cathedral ceilinged great room with 2 fireplaces; professional kitchen and a landscaped indoor hallway with fountain. Throughout: custom skylights; antique steel doors and windows; barn and Dutch doors; audio/video, security and internet.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Jaman Properties’ first project, Kenter Canyon occurred before the invention of the iphone and, hence, has very few “Before” photos. The property did, however, result in a terrific tribute, which is the publishing of the primary bedroom in Coastal Living’s hardcover book, “Beach House Style”.
